Sewer Rate Increase Coming in Montgomeryville

Sewer rates are on the way up in Montgomeryville.   The township supervisors Monday night approved advertisement of a 10% rate increase for the Municipal Sewer Authority.   Formal approval is expected to come at their Januray 3rd meeting.   Authority officials say rates went up 5% last year but that increase proved insufficient in the face of the sour economy as well as the high cost of labor and materials.   They also say increasing regulation by the state does not help much either.   The 10% rate hike will cost the average residential sewer authority customer abouyt $40 a year.

Single Trash Hauler Proposed Again In Lansdale

Another look at designating a single trash hauler for Lansdale is in the works.   The borough paid a consultant $18,000 to study the proposal about five years ago but things did not go beyond that because officials at the time decided it was not administratively practical.   Council Vice President Paul Clemente says the report indicated having a single hauler would save residents money, cut air pollution and prevent wear-and-tear on the streets.   The discussions about designating a single trash hauler will start in the administration and finance committee after the start of the new year before moving on for the consideration of council as a whole.
