A blueprint for the redevelopment of the former Willow Grove Naval Air Station is taking shape. Horsham Township officials Wednesday night told their planning consultant to prepare another version of the plan for the 860-acre property for the November 16th meeting of the Land Reuse Authority. It will incorporate aspects of three earlier plans and include residential and entertainment uses in a town center between Horsham and Easton Roads near a relocated Maple Avenue. It could also include a high end hotel with a conference center. A grand boulevard is planned too. It would run between Maple Avenue and Keith Valley Road and utilize an existing runway and taxci way as well as the 250 feet of open space between them.
Lansdale officials are looking for a suitable way to honor the memory of Former Mayor Mike DiNunzio. He passed away in retirement earlier this month following a long career that included 26-years as mayor of the borough. A committee will be formed to come up with a fitting memorial. Borough Council President Matt West and current Mayor Andy Szekely will serve on the committee but the other members are undetermined at this point. West says the committee will take its time to make sure the most appropriate way is chosen to remember Mayor Mike.
It's Fire Prevention Week and Towamencin officials are commending a resident of the age restricted Walnut Meadows community for his actions during a fire at the Clubhouse there last March. Tony Keown was doing some yard work on an early spring afternoon when he smelled smoke. At first he thought it was a cook out but he quickly realized the Clubhouse was on fire and he ran into the burning building to get his neighbors out. No one was hurt by the fire and Towamencin officials credit Keown with getting everyone out of the Clubhouse safely. Keown says he doesn't feel like a hero. He's just glad everyone got out safely.
