It's Fire Prevention Week and Towamencin officials are commending a resident of the age restricted Walnut Meadows community for his actions during a fire at the Clubhouse there last March. Tony Keown was doing some yard work on an early spring afternoon when he smelled smoke. At first he thought it was a cook out but he quickly realized the Clubhouse was on fire and he ran into the burning building to get his neighbors out. No one was hurt by the fire and Towamencin officials credit Keown with getting everyone out of the Clubhouse safely. Keown says he doesn't feel like a hero. He's just glad everyone got out safely.
The Towamencin Supervisors are taking a step back from the dog park proposed for Fischer's Park. They took that action Wednesday night after concerns surfaced about a Pandora's Box of issues that could come with a fenced in area where canines large and small would be able to run off leash. Those issues include maintenance, noise and cost. Township officials say there are other sites in Towamencin that might make more sense for a dog park. They also point out that dog owners can still take their pets for a walk at Fischer's Park as long as they clean up after them and the dogs remain on a leash.
