2 Head For Trial In Sports League Thefts

dollarTwo men accused of stealing from Central Bucks County youth basketball leagues that are affiliated, but operated separately with different bank accounts, made court appearances Monday. 49-year-old Stephen Feeley of Warwick waived his right to a preliminary hearing, while the lawyer representing 58-year-old Joseph Anderson of Warrington argued that the charges against his client should be dropped.  Both allegedly wrote checks to themselves and put them in their personal accounts.  Feeley was treasurer of the Warrington-Warwick Boys’ Basketball Association, and Anderson was treasurer of the Warrington-Warwick Girls’ Basketball Association. Anderson admitted writing checks to himself, but Attorney Richard Wasserbly said the charges should be dropped because he repaid most of the money before the investigation started.  Assistant District Attorney Jay Karsch said he didn’t start paying it back until the school district realized something was wrong.  Both men were ordered to stand trial in Bucks County Court.  The total amount stolen from both leagues over a four-year period was about $159,000.
