Trial Delayed In Fatal School Bus Crash Case

montco_courthouseA former school bus driver accused of causing a crash that left one man dead and another seriously injured has had his trial delayed. It was scheduled to start Thursday, but a judge granted the delay, giving lawyers more time to get reports from crash reconstruction experts.  That means his trial will probably start early next year in Montgomery County Court.  38-year-old Frederick Poust of Schwenksville is charged with homicide by vehicle and other offenses stemming from the crash about ten months ago when the bus and a car collided in front of the Perkiomen Valley West Middle School, on Route 73 near Swamp Creek Road in Zieglerville.  The dead man, 27-year-old Richard Taylor of Gilbertsville, was a passenger in a Honda Civic driven by his employer, 41-year-old contractor Freddy Carroll of Perkiomenville, who suffered serious injuries.  Police say Poust turned left in front of the Honda as he tried to enter school property.  Investigators found that he caused the crash by improperly entering the opposing traffic lane.  Onboard bus video shows him driving recklessly and running ten stop signs prior to the crash.
