Pirate Ship Torched At Bucks Co High School

fireFire early Thursday destroyed a wooden pirate ship at the Palisades High School Stadium in Nockamixon Township. It was 48 feet long, eight feet wide and two stories high, and it had become an icon in the Upper Bucks County community as a rallying point for school spirit and the football team.  It was big enough for the Palisades Pirates mascot and dozens of other students to get on board and cheer for the team.  It stood outside a fence beyond one end zone during games.  Pennsylvania State Police at Dublin say the fire was arson, and the fire marshal is reviewing stadium surveillance video for clues.  Upper Black Eddy contractor Scott Carr built the ship seven years ago, using a large hay wagon as a base, and he vows to launch a fundraising campaign and build a new one.  He says it will sail higher and longer than the old one.
