Alleged Firefighter-Turned-Firebug May Go To Behavioral Health Court

sluzenskiA former volunteer firefighter, accused of getting drunk and setting three fires in less than 20 minutes last April, will be evaluated to see if he qualifies for Montgomery County’s Behavioral Health Court. The program allows defendants to avoid jail time by getting treatment under close court supervision.  24-year-old Charles Sluzenski (pictured here) of Pottstown is charged with arson, risking a catastrophe and related offenses.  Court documents say the fires, two in West Pottsgrove and one in Pottstown, were within five blocks of both his home and the bar where he had been drinking.  Court documents say he was arrested after going to one of them in full firefighter’s gear, asking the chief to put him in.  The chief saw that he was intoxicated, and police arrested him for public drunkenness.  The other charges were added later, and he was relieved of his duties as a member of the Linfield Volunteer Fire Company in Limerick Township.  The fires caused several thousand dollars worth of damage to a house, two sheds and a boat.
