A Norristown man is accused of ordering a series of firebombings and assaults aimed at building up street power for a local chapter of the “Bloods” Gang, based in New York. 23-year-old Augustus Simmons (pictured here) is charged with arson and attempted murder. He moved to the area from Brooklyn about a year ago. He and nine other people are charged in the incidents, including a Norristown fire last December that damaged ten row houses on Stanbridge Street and injured several people. In that incident a firebomb was thrown onto one home’s porch. Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Ferman says Simmons ordered other gang members to firebomb the homes to intimidate possible witnesses who might testify against him. Court documents say gang members also committed a robbery in Norristown and an assault in Conshohocken. Ferman says they are urban terrorists, and she will not allow them to get a foothold in the county.
