A suspect in a Montgomery County murder has been arrested in Florida. Police took 32-year-old Edwin Carrero (pictured here) into custody without incident around 2:30am Tuesday at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida. He faces first and third degree murder charges in the death of his mistress, 31-year-old Alicia Schmidt. He was in Schmidt’s car when an officer from the Seminole Tribal Police stopped him in the hotel-casino parking garage.
Pottstown Police found her body when they responded to her Cherry Street home for a report of a domestic disturbance Thursday morning, February 2. She was apparently strangled and thrown down the basement stairs. Carrero remains in a Florida jail on a car theft charge, he is awaiting extradition to Pennsylvania, and the victim’s two children are in the care of relatives.
