Death Penalty Sought In Triple Murder

McAndrewMontgomery County prosecutors are seeking the death penalty for a man accused of killing three family members in Upper Merion. At a formal arraignment Wednesday, 24-year-old Joseph McAndrew Junior (pictured here) pleaded not guilty to charges of first and third degree murder.  He is accused of killing his mother, father and brother at their home on Holstein Road in the Gulph Mills section of the township in March of last year.

Court documents indicate he had been dealing with mental illness, possibly schizophrenia, prior to the killings.  Because of his condition, he is being held at Norristown State Hospital.  His twin brother James, his 70-year-old father Joseph McAndrew Senior and his 64-year-old mother Susan were stabbed to death with an 18-inch dagger.
