Man Surrenders, Ending Standoff

A New Jersey police officer who barricaded himself in a Doylestown Township home for much of the day Sunday, June 17, firing a gun periodically, surrendered late at night. 42-year-old Richard Klementovich of the Clifton, New Jersey Police Department allegedly fired from different locations at his estranged wife’s house on Bittersweet Drive in the upscale Doylestown Lea development, across Wells Road from Central Park and the Doylestown Township Municipal Building.

None of the shots hit anyone, but Doylestown Borough Police Corporal William Doucette was hit by pieces of flying concrete after a bullet hit a curb.  Some nearby residents were evacuated to the park and offered shelter at the township building, while others were told to seek shelter in their basements or the safest part of the house and stay away from windows.

Klementovich surrendered peacefully in the front yard of his wife’s home shortly before midnight, and he faces multiple charges of attempted homicide.
