A Bucks County judge has given a man jail time for texting while driving and causing a serious crash.
26-year-old William Vancamp of Doylestown must serve 9 to 23 months in county prison and complete 50 hours of community service by speaking to young drivers about the dangers of texting while driving.
The crash happened last November along the border between Warwick and Buckingham townships. He was traveling South on Route 263 and failed to see that traffic was stopped ahead of him, so he hit an SUV and sent it flying into the windshield of a dump truck, causing serious injuries to a father and son in the truck.
Vancamp initially denied texting while driving, but a check of his cell phone found that he sent or received 38 text messages in the hour leading up to the crash.
