Cops Say Defendant Shot At Them

Several police officers testified Thursday that they were shot at, or their vehicles were shot at, more than two months ago outside a Doylestown Township home.

Their testimony came at a preliminary hearing for a New Jersey police officer who holed up in his estranged wife’s home Sunday, June 17, firing a gun many times.

42-year-old Richard Klementovich, who is suspended from the Clifton, New Jersey Police Department, is charged with numerous criminal offenses including attempted homicide.  Court documents say he was trying to commit “Suicide by Cop.”

He sent his parents a text message during the standoff saying, “This is the way I want to die.”  In an e-mail to his wife he said, “I get angry at this job and law enforcement and it’s them who I will take out my anger on.”

His lawyers say Klementovich planned the standoff for Fathers’ Day because he was despondent over losing his family.  His wife, Jill Majors, filed for divorce last October and she was seeking custody of their nine-year-old daughter and seven-year-old son.  They had been separated for two years and the home was in her name.

Police say he also blamed his steroid use.  He is being held at Bucks County Prison on $1 million bail.
