Driving Instructor Allegedly Helped People Cheat On PennDot Tests
45-year-old Mostafa Jamal of Monroe Drive in Towamencin Township is charged with false swearing and other offenses.
He owns Deshi Driving School in Harleysville and was an official interpreter for PennDot. He sat with test-takers and translated the English questions into Hindu, Bengali and Urdu, but Pennsylvania State Police say he also gave them the answers.
He met in June with an undercover state trooper who was fluent in a foreign language and pretended not to know English. They drove to the Huntingdon Valley Driver’s Licensing Center, where Jamal allegedly told the undercover trooper which answers to pick without translating the questions.
Investigators found five more people who said he gave them the correct answers for a $500 fee.
