A Hatfield Township man who police say stabbed his wife to death in the early morning hours of June 7th in their Hatfield Township home on Denbeigh Drive will stand trial. A hearing was held Wednesday afternoon in District Court in Souderton, where a Hatfield Township Police Officer, a Detective and information from the county coroner revealed that Mona Elswaldy Mitwalli was stabbed 15 times, causing major damage to her internal organs, arms, face and neck. Mitwalli told officers his wife tried to stab him and he disarmed her, turning the knife on his wife. Video surveillance cameras were installed in the home, but a key piece of equipment is still missing. Mitwalli told police he suspected his wife of cheating on him. He had her committed to a psychiatric facility, but medical staff determined she was not ill and soon released. A protection order filed by mitwalli against his wife was granted, but a judge quickly dismissed it. Mitwalli’s next court hearing is pending. He faces charges of 1st and 3rd degree murder.
