Upper Gwynedd Twp. Police Create Special Needs Registry

In an effort to help people in the township, Upper Gwynedd Township Police have created a Special Needs Registry for people with special needs who may need help in an emergency. Police developed the idea to help when a parent or caregiver of a special needs person may be in the hospital or unavailable. Officer Matthew Toro says, some people with special needs may not know what to do if something happens and they need help.

“We are starting this registry to get some information from people about one of their loved ones who may wonder off or need help in some other way. The information we get could help calm the person down or simply help us communicate better with the person by way of key phrases about who they are in the event they get lost. It’s a safety measure. It’s not big brother stuff. We’re not putting this information in a computer. It’ll be in a folder at the Police station when it’s needed.

Officer Toro says anyone who would like to sign up for the registry to help protect one of thier family members with special needs can contact the Upper Gwynedd Township Police Department at 215-699-5861
