A single mother says medical bills brought on by a heart attack led her to steal money from her employer, a Telford roofing and renovation business on South 3rd street. 48-year-old, Kelly Lynn Chewning admitted to taking 42-thousand dollars in checks from the business, where she was employed as a bookkeeper.
The thefts occurred between May of 2012 and April of last year. Telford Police say, Chewning knew the combination to a safe at the business where checks were stored. Police later used video at a bank that showed Chewning cashing checks. Chewning stole checks of nearly 35-thouand dollars from the roofing business and almost 8-grand from the renovation side of the business. Chewning, formerly of Souderton, is now free on bail. Her last address was in Bradford County. Chewning will be sentenced at a later date where should could face a prison term of 7 to 14 years.
