Kerns, Not off The Hook, But Judge Drops Rape and Sex Assault Charges

It’s a case that was first thought to be in the bag for the Montgomery County Prosecutor. But District Attorney, Risa Ferman, would ultimately drop charges and refer the case to State Attorney General, Kathleen Kane.

Former Montgomery County G.O.P Chair, Bob Kerns, was arrested last October after being accused of drugging and raping a co-worker that was employed at his North Wales law firm. The alleged victim, whose identity has not been made public, was believed to be overcome by the sleeping drug Ambein, that was allegedly dropped in a bottle of wine by Kerns. Toxicology reports from the victim showed that Ambein was not found in her system. According to reports, the Montgomery County D.A.’s office did not correctly read the toxicology reports. Wednesday morning at a District Court hearing in Whitpain Township, Judge Joann Teyral dropped charges of felony rape and felony sexual assault against Kerns after reviewing a transcript of the incident. Judge Teyral has ordered that six other charges against Kerns will stand for trial. The charges include, two counts of felony aggravated indecent assault, three counts of misdemeanor indecent assault and one count of misdemeanor simple assault. Kerns is free after posting 10 percent of one million dollars bail. Kerns faces a formal arraignment on the charges July 30th.
