A Lansdale family is out several thousand dollars after falling prey to a phone scam on June 27th. The caller identified himself as a member of the federal crime control agency, which does not exist. Lansdale Borough Police Sergeant, Alex Kromdyk says the caller told the man, who lives on Cherry street that he owed money. He ordered the man to go to a nearby store.
“Convert cash in to those green dot money packs. Once that done, the victim gives the serial numbers, which you need to cash those money packs out at the other end, give the serial number and that’s it and our victim is over three thousand dollars out on the first scam.”
The first call originated from a Texas exchange. The second time the man was called, the exchange came from North Carolina, but he starting asking questions and the caller hung up. Kromdyk urges people never to give money over the phone, and always consult with police or family when presented with such a situation.
The alleged actions of a 60-year-old man have him in trouble with police for the 2nd time in one week. Towamencin Township Police accuse Thomas Clifford of exposing himself to a married couple at the Main Street Apartments at 11 Sunday night. According to the couple, Clifford was completely naked during the incident. Police arrested Clifford on Monday. The Towamencin man was arrested last Wednesday for allegedly exposing himself to two boys at the main street apartments. He was released on that charge after posting 5-grand. Clifford is now in the Montgomery County Correctional Facility after ailing to post 25-thousand dollars bail in the Sunday incident. Clifford faces a list of charges.
A trash truck crashes in Hilltown Township, killing a Norristown man and sending the driver to Grand View Hospital for treatment. Hilltown Township Police Chief, Christopher Englehart, says it happened Tuesday morning at around 4:30, when the driver lost control of the truck after making a left turn onto Dublin road. The truck skidded on its side into trees, coming to rest around a drainage area. 24-year-old, Ricco Rios was pinned in the truck, he died at the scene.
“Early morning hours, very little traffic, so there were no issues regarding that. They were just out doing their job. Obviously how this tragedy happened, it’s a sad for his family.”
The driver of the truck, Adam Bermudez of East Norriton, was able to climb out of the truck. He was transported to Grand View Hospital for treatment and evaluation. The crash remains under investigation.
A Sellersville man faces a list of charges after allegedly using Craigslist to lure a teen girl to a hotel. Officials with the U-S Department of Homeland Security say, 39-year-old, Michael Barndt thought he was communicating with a 14-year-old girl, but on the other end of the messages he was receiving through yahoo, was an agent with homeland security. According to court documents, filed in Delaware, Barndt used the phrase “Real Teen Fantasy” in his search for a teenage girl. Barndt sent messages to the agent, who he thought to be a 14-year-old girl between June 7th and June 13th. He’s charged with attempted coercion and enticement of a minor, along with attempted transfer of obscene matter to a minor.
