Lansdale Residents Face Sewer Rate Hike

BathroomSewer bills are going up by about $6 a month. Borough Councilman Dan Dunigan says the sewer fund has a $225,000 deficit and no reserves, and it leaves the borough unprepared for emergencies.

“I believe, because of the high level of regulation that a water treatment plant is subject to, you are prudent to be setting aside some amount in a fund so that when they do come along, and you need to change, that might cost more than you’d saved, but at least you’ve planned for it so that you’re not caught entirely behind the eight ball.”

Dunigan says the sewer fund is supposed to operate as a business, and if keeps running with a deficit it will go out of business.  The rate hike will close the deficit and start a reserve fund for capital improvements.
