Being Gay Is OK In Doylestown

Pride-Flag-in-the-windDoylestown Borough Council has passed an ordinance that bars discrimination based on sexual orientation. It contains broad language referring to actual or perceived race, sex, religion, ancestry, age and disability, among other things, but it’s aimed mainly at protecting gay and lesbian residents and visitors.  It calls for a local Human Relations Commission to mediate or hold hearings on complaints and educate the public about discrimination issues.  A current borough employee would oversee the commission, and council is looking for volunteers to serve on it.  Doylestown is the second Bucks County municipality to pass a similar anti-discrimination ordinance.  New Hope approved one in 2002, but so far no one has filed a complaint.
