PA House Passes Youth Sports Bill

footballThe Pennsylvania House has passed a bill aimed at improving concussion management in high school and junior high or middle school sports. Its main sponsor, Montgomery County State Representative Tim Briggs, says some people in youth sports don’t understand how serious the injuries can be.

“We really need to start at a younger age educating parents and coaches and players of the significance of long-term concussions.”

Briggs says the bill would require student athletes and parents to sign a concussion and head injury information sheet each year prior to practice or competition.  In the event of an injury the student could not return to play until cleared by a medical professional trained in concussion management.  The bill still needs senate approval.
