Towamencin Reaches Agreement With DEP On Trash Ordinance

trash_canThe Towamencin Township Supervisors are moving forward with a new trash and recycling ordinance. They are advertising an amendment that should come up for a vote later this month.  Chairman Dan Littley says they have resolved differences with the state over certain provisions in an earlier directive from the department of environmental protection, and especially one requiring everyone to hire a trash hauler.

“Our concern at the last meeting was your 80-year-old grandmother had to have a trash hauler, no matter that maybe her neighbor said, ‘put your once-a-week bag in my trash and I’ll take care of it.’”

He says they can drop that and still be in compliance with state law.  The amended ordinance also removes a ban on burning leaves outdoors.  The supervisors are going along with a requirement that they provide recycling containers at any event that attracts more than 200 people.
