Harper: Tea Party Should Be Heard On Corbett Transition Team

tea_partyA number of Democrats are upset with Governor-Elect Tom Corbett because he appointed two suburban Tea Party activists to his transition team. They are Ana Puig of Doylestown and Diana Reimer of Lansdale.  But Montgomery County State Representative Kate Harper says the Tea Party movement deserves representation.

“This last election saw an unprecedented grass roots effort by people who sometimes identify with the Tea Party and sometimes don’t identify with any party.  They wanted to be involved in our democracy, and that’s always a good thing.  To the extent some of those viewpoints are represented on Governor Corbett’s transition team, that’s a good thing in my view.”

She says Corbett made an excellent choice when he picked Bill Sasso of Gwynedd Valley as Transition Team Chairman.

“Bill Sasso is head of one of the largest law firms in the city, Stradley-Ronan, and he’s also been a past Chairman of the Board of the Chamber of Commerce in Philadelphia and had a number of big jobs for various charitable organizations, and he’s well-known in Montgomery County and the Philadelphia region, and he’s a pretty smart guy.”

She says Bucks County State Representative Paul Clymer was also a good choice for the Education Transition Committee.

“In a recession, and especially for seniors on a fixed income, school property taxes are very hard to swallow, and they get harder as they get bigger, so I think Paul Clymer will be good at reminding the transition team that education has to be good but it also has to be cost-effective.  We just can’t afford to have school property taxes go up, and up, and up with no end in sight.”

Harper, Clymer and Corbett are all Republicans.  The Governor-Elect also named Montgomery County Community College President Karen Stout to his Transition Team.
