Lansdale, N Wales Raising Taxes

dollarLansdale Borough Council has approved a budget that calls for about $30 million in spending and raises property taxes by about $160 for the average homeowner next year. Councilwoman Mary Fuller says she is painfully aware of the recession, but she did what she had to do in voting for it.

“I’m in a household that has been hard-hit by the downturn in the economy.  Do I want to pay more money?  No, but the numbers show it’s what needs to be done for Lansdale now.”

Councilmen Rich DiGregorio and Jack Hansen voted against the budget.

North Wales Borough Council has approved a $1.7 million budget with a small property tax increase.  The average homeowner will pay $12 more.

The Towamencin Township Supervisors have approved a budget that calls for more than $15.3 million in spending and no tax or sewer rate increase next year.  It also extends the homestead and farmstead exemptions.

The Hatfield Township Commissioners have not reached a budget agreement because of differences over where to cut spending.  They need a balanced budget by the end of the year, so they meet again on December 29 to work things out.
