The New Delaware River Port Authority Chairman, Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett (pictured here), says he will make local commuters his top priority and focus on cutting the bi-state agency’s heavy debt. He also wants to look at management practices and political patronage, and Democracy Rising PA founder Tim Potts says it’s no surprise that the managers hire political cronies.
“Some of these authorities were intended all along to be havens for patronage and use an essential public service as a fig leaf to hide that kind of activity. I can’t imagine that that would continue if Governor Corbett really puts his mind to examining that agency.”
The DRPA manages four toll bridges over the Delaware River and operates commuter rail service between Philadelphia and several South Jersey stations. Corbett says he will work closely with New Jersey Governor Chris Christie on reforms. Potts appeared Wednesday on the WNPV talk program Comment Please by Univest.
