PennDot has closed Headquarters Road between Tankhannen and Red Hill Roads in Tinicum Township, Bucks County, due to deck deterioration on the bridge over the Tinicum Creek. PennDot District Executive Lester Toaso says crews inspecting the bridge Wednesday morning found a 3 ½ by 1 1/2-foot hole in the concrete deck. The one-lane bridge was built in 1919. PennDot is talking with Tinicum Township to discuss options for replacing it. The state is no longer in the business of building one-lane bridges, so unless the new one has two lanes the township will have to take ownership and local taxpayers will foot the bill for future maintenance.
