They hope the ticket, led by Whitemarsh Township Supervisor Leslie Richards and State Representative Josh Shapiro for County Commissioner, will give them control of the courthouse in Norristown for the first time since the Civil War. Party Chairman Marcel Groen says he hopes incumbent Commissioner Bruce Castor keeps things civil and refrains from the kind of attacks he has made on fellow Republican Jim Matthews.
“I really don’t know what they’re going to say or how they’re going to say it. I do hope that the vitriol by Mr. Castor ceases. It has no place in normal human relationships, let alone in governing.”
Castor and Matthews have been feuding since Matthews formed an alliance with Democrat Joe Hoeffel nearly four years ago. Castor is running for re-election on a GOP ticket he shares with Lower Merion Township Commissioner Jenny Brown.
