Panel Sees Rt 422 Toll Plan

dollarGovernor Tom Corbett’s Transportation Funding Advisory Commission has taken its first look at a plan to charge tolls on Route 422 between King of Prussia and Reading. The plan includes automated electronic tolling stations that would deduct tolls from motorists’ accounts.  The amounts would range from 50 cents to $2.65.  The plan also calls for a second bridge across the Schuylkill River and a wider highway.  Montgomery County Commissioner Joe Hoeffel says the project would require an initial billion-dollar bond issue, and tolls would repay the loan.  Toll revenue could also help pay for restoring commuter rail service between Norristown and Reading.  The advisory commission will make a recommendation later this summer, and then the plan would need approval at the local, county and state levels before anything can be built.
