Grilling Restricted In Norristown

bbq_grillNorristown Council has banned cooking on charcoal grills and other open-flame devices on combustible porches, decks and balconies and within ten feet of a building. Fire Chief Tom O’Donnell says the older homes are made almost entirely of wood, which is very combustible, and one spark from an unattended grill can start a fire that could destroy several row houses, which have connected porches in many cases.  He says the older row houses have brick on the outside, but the framework behind the brick is all wood.  He says residents can store a barbecue grill on a porch as long as they are not cooking on it and it has cooled down.
