Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick says he could support about 60 percent of President Obama’s jobs bill, and it has two provisions he really likes. “I agree with the tax credits to hire veterans.  I agree with the extension of the payroll tax cut for middle-income Americans.”

He says he also supports more spending on highways and other infrastructure, with two conditions.

“One, the money has to be spent on actual infrastructure, unlike the last stimulus program that kind of evaporated with no infrastructure being built.  It has to put construction workers back to work immediately.  Number two, it can be paid for privately, and therefore it should be.  We don’t need to raise taxes.”

Fitzpatrick says he wants it funded through government-approved private-sector energy drilling on the outer continental shelf in the Gulf of Mexico, Arctic Ocean and off the coasts of Virginia and Florida.  His district is mostly in Bucks County, and he appeared Wednesday on the WNPV talk program Comment Please by Univest.
