The Springfield Township Supervisors have voted to end their legal battle against PPL’s plans to run high-voltage power lines through woods and wetlands in their Upper Bucks County community. Commonwealth Court ruled earlier this year that the project could move forward, and they wanted to appeal to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, but now they say that would cost too much and they would probably lose.

In an out of court settlement, PPL has agreed to pay Springfield $325,000 and take steps to minimize the environmental impact.  Those steps include replacing wetlands that are disturbed along the Tohickon Creek.  The power lines will run roughly along the creek’s path.  The Allentown-based utility company says it needs the new lines to strengthen the aging electric grid that stretches through 29 Pennsylvania counties.
