PA Primary Election Results

wnpv_politicsMitt Romney swept to victory in the Pennsylvania Primary Election, capturing 58 percent of the vote and cementing his position as the Republican presidential nominee. Former U.S. Senator Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania got 18 percent of the vote, even though he had dropped out of the race.  Santorum says he will support Romney.

Western Pennsylvania businessman Tom Smith won the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate.  Former Berks County State Representative Sam Rohrer came in second, and Chester County businessman Steve Welch finished third.  At his election night headquarters in King of Prussia, Welch called for party unity.

“This is not about individuals.  This is about getting this country back on track.  Tom Smith fought a great fight in this race.  He worked very hard in this process and it’s time we come behind Tom.”

Smith faces incumbent Democrat Bob Casey in the November general election.

Former Lackawanna County Assistant District Attorney Kathleen Kane has won the Democratic Party nomination for attorney general, winning 53 percent of the vote and defeating former Bucks County Congressman Patrick Murphy.  She faces Republican District Attorney David Freed of Cumberland County in November.  No Democrat has been Pennsylvania Attorney General since it became an elective office in 1980.
