The Pennsylvania Association of Elementary and Secondary School Principals has chosen Souderton Area High School’s Sam Varano (pictured here) as its 2011 High School Principal of the Year. Superintendent of Schools Frederick Johnson, who nominated him, says Doctor Varano really is the best.
“I’ve been around this business for a long time, and I’ve been an administrator for many years, and Doctor Varano is superlative in his leadership of a building. He is unique, a one-of-a-kind leader, and he is the best building principal I’ve ever been around.”
And he’s good with all kinds of people including students, teachers and parents.
“He has a great knack for rapport with all populations. He feels comfortable no matter what kind of a crowd he’s in. He faces the challenges, and sometimes the argumentative nature of individuals. He has a way of listening and understanding and processing those, and is able to handle even the most awkward situations well.”
Doctor Johnson says it’s a very special honor because Pennsylvania has more than 500 high school principals and he’s number-one. Doctor Varano goes on to compete with the other state winners for the national Principal of the Year award.
