NP Adopts Head Lice Policy

liceThe North Penn School Board has approved a policy that encourages students to get back to class as soon as possible after getting medical treatment for head lice. Assistant Superintendent of Schools Diane Holben says they need a consistent approach to the problem.

“It’s not uncommon with young children to have a child or two come in with head lice at some point during the year, and so we simply want to make sure that we have a standard approach to how to address the issue of head lice with children and make sure that the students are not excluded for a longer period than they need to because we’d like them in school being educated.”

Under the new policy children with nits, or eggs, would be allowed in class.  Director of Special Education Tina Giambattista says nits do not travel or jump, so they will not infect other children as long as the child who has them has received medical treatment.
