The 8th district congressional race may well be epicenter of the political world this fall. Patrick Murphy will be in search of a third term. Many believe his political ambition reaches beyond his current post. He is very much representative of the current majority in congress. The question is how closely does he reflect the 8th district. He won the seat in '06 because voters had enough of George W. He was re-elected in the rising Obama-tide. But could Murphy be swept out to sea in a receding democratic tide?
The re-emergence of Mike Fitzpatrick---unseated by Murphy 4 years ago---sets up a classic scenario sure to test the national political current. I expect a big money and very negative campaign. It will not be for the faint of heart. As it has in the past---this fall's
8th congressional race could certainly be telling a much larger, national story.
