The Souderton Area School Board has approved a new contract with the teachers of the district. It includes a salary freeze for the first two years of the five year deal. A three day reduction in the work year along with a commensurate decrease in pay is also part of the contract. That means district teachers will actually be earning 1.6% less during the first year of the agreement. A 1% salary increases is scheduled for year five and pay raises for length of service and additional education beyond a bachelor degree return in year three so the average teacher can expect to earn about 9% more when the new contract expires in 2017.
