Plans for the rennovation and expansion of Hatfield Elementary School in the North Penn School District were rolled out during the school board meeting Tuesday night. What's in the works is a new roof as well as major upgrades in the heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems. The library will be expanded and a 2,100 square foot addition will be built at the front of the school. Construction will take about 13-months and the plan is to have the 478 students move around the corner onto the campus of Pennfield Middle School while work is in progress. The addition of twelve modular classrooms at Pennfield will keep the elementary school children apart from the older students. The current budget estimate for the project is about $15,600,000.
The cost of breakfast for students in the North Penn School District is going up. Effective with the start of the next school year, it will be $1.75. That's a 50 cent increase. The cost for lunch at the middle schools is also going up. It will be $3.00, a price hike of 20 cents. The cost for lunch at the elementary and high school level will remain the same. Students that currently get free or reduced price meals won't be impacted by the increase. The student meal program is an Enterprise Fund and must balance its budget without taxpayer dollars.
