Special presentation at 2:00 on "Pennsylvania German Gardening Practices" by Brian Heft. 1:30-4:00. Some of the world's most famous Heirloom Vegetables originated with the German immigrants who settled southeast Pennsylvania 200 years ago. They developed and /or improved upon many of the farming and gardening practices that are core to today's organic gardens. The classic "four square" garden employed by early Pennsylvania Germans was the forerunner of "modern" raised bed systems. Join us for a casual discussion on the gardening methods developed by the Pennsylvania Germans, the application of these methods to today's gardens and some the vegetable varieties they grew.
