Have you ever considered weaving a nesting set of apple baskets? If so, here is your opportunity to start your own beautiful nesting set on Saturday, August 22 from 9am to 3 pm at the Mennonite Heritage Center, 565 Yoder Road, Harleysville. Working over wooden molds in the methods of the Shakers, you can weave a traditional apple basket in one of three sizes: 8”, 10” or 12”. Artisan basket weaver Karen Wychock will instruct participants how to weave the body of the basket with reed, then finish it off with an oak handle and lash it with ash.
This class will be repeated several times so that you can complete your nesting set. If you plan to complete a nesting set, it does not matter what size that you start with for your set.
When registering for this class, please specify what size basket that you will be weaving (8”, 10” or 12”) and what handle you will be adding to your basket (overhead or ear). If you have never woven a basket, Karen recommends that you start small and work up to the larger sizes.
Preregistration is necessary as the workshop size is limited. The workshop fee is $55 plus the materials fee for the basket of your choice. Materials fee:
8” basket - $30 (only overhead handle)
10” basket - $35 (overhead or ear handles)
